At Gentle Dental AI, we are building an AIoT oral-systemic health device that combines intraoral imaging, biosignal sensing, illumination, battery systems, connectivity, and mechanical actuation inside a toothbrush form factor.

We are looking for a Mechanical Product Design & DFM/NPI Engineering Intern who wants to work on real hardware, not just classroom CAD models or pretty renders.

This role is for someone who asks practical engineering questions:

Will this part mould properly?
Will this seal leak?
Can this be assembled repeatedly?
Can we reduce part count?
Will it survive water, toothpaste, vibration, brushing cycles, and daily use?

What you will work on:

- Mechanical CAD support for the smart toothbrush handle, brush head, sensor mounts, internal packaging, seals, charging interface, and assembly parts.
- DFM/DFA reviews for plastic parts, snap-fits, ribs, bosses, wall thickness, draft angles, tolerances, and assembly sequence.
- 2D drawings, exploded views, assembly references, and basic manufacturing documentation.
- Rapid prototypes using 3D printing, mockups, hand tools, and lab validation.
- Waterproofing and sealing experiments for a wet bathroom-use consumer-health device.
- Mechanical fitment checks between PCBs, battery, sensors, camera, LEDs, motor, and enclosure.
- Cross-functional problem-solving with electronics, firmware, product, and vendor teams.

What we are looking for:

- Background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or related fields.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Creo, NX, or similar CAD tools.
- Basic understanding of injection moulding, plastic part design, 3D printing, tolerances, and assembly.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and think in terms of manufacturability.
- Comfort with prototyping, measurements, fitment checks, and iterative debugging.
- Strong documentation discipline, curiosity, ownership, and willingness to work in a startup hardware lab.

Bonus points:
Experience with consumer electronics, medical devices, IoT hardware, wearables, waterproof products, GD&T, materials, test fixtures, PCB-mechanical integration, battery packaging, vibration isolation, or compact electromechanical assemblies.

This is not a pure CAD internship. It is not a simulation-only role. You will work on the messy middle between prototype and manufacturing — where real hardware either becomes a product or dies quietly.
