"Tell me about yourself"- is not a casual question.
It's the most important 90 seconds of your interview.
Most freshers answer it like this:
"I'm from Chennai. I completed my B.Tech in CSE. I like coding and playing cricket."
โThat's not an interview answer.
What the interviewer is really asking is: "Why should we hire you?"
A simple structure that works:
๐ย Present โ "I'm a final-year CSE student with a focus on backend development."
๐ย Past โ "Over the past 2 years, I've built 4 projects, one of which was deployed and used by 300+ students in my college."
๐ย Future โ "I'm looking to join a product team where I can contribute from day one and grow into a strong backend engineer."
60โ90 seconds. Crisp. Confident. Specific.
So, if you've practiced your story, built your skills, and are looking for an opportunity to start your career journey, we'd love to hear from you.

Interview advice
Going for the Software Engineer role at ZakApps? A few things that help freshers walk in prepared:
- Revise core data structures and be ready to explain the logic in your best project line by line โ interviewers care more about how you reason than which language you used.
- Keep answers tight and on-point; avoid rambling or personal topics like religion, politics, relationships or family.
- Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early (not an hour), and carry a printed CV, a valid ID and any certificates.
- Practise once out loud with a friend or a mock interview โ the more you rehearse, the calmer and clearer you will be on the day.
- Send a short thank-you message within a day that refers to something specific you discussed โ most freshers skip this, and it is remembered.
